Barça Sports Science Week exists in order to connect researchers from different fields, and professionals in the sports industry from around the globe. Bridging both worlds, strengthens our goal to take sports organizations one step further as well as helping boost athletic performance.
FC Barcelona is recognized as one of the most influential and outstanding sports clubs in the world. The city of Barcelona is a well-known hotspot for hosting meetings and conferences due to its climate, venues and food. This combination means that, annually, Sports Science Week becomes a reference event and helps participants to:
- Be at the forefront and understand the latest research papers regarding medical, performance, physiotherapy and nutritional themes.
- Establish new partnerships, and identifying new opportunities and insights.
- Develop a global network of likeminded professionals.
- Learn from FC Barcelona’s sports and science acumen.
This edition was held from 8th to 11th October at the Camp Nou. More than 1200 visitors and more than 60 speakers from 53 different nationalities attended to learn about the latest advances and case studies in sports science. The list of guests and speakers included some of the most influential science and medicine experts in the world, opinion leaders, sports club professionals and pioneers in the field of innovation.

In the words of Johan Cruyff, “Players, in reality, have the ball for 3 minutes, on average. So, the most important thing is: what do you do during those 87 minutes when you do not have the ball? That is what determines whether you’re a good player or not.”

Muscle injuries account for more than 30% of all injuries in sports like soccer. Their significance is therefore enormous in terms of training sessions and lost game time.
