In his own words, every time he dons his gloves his goal is “to play the perfect match.” He wants to be perfectly positioned for every move and get every pass spot on. These high demands mean that in addition to training with the squad, he also does individual exercises. Marc-André ter Stegen feels that the key areas that a goalkeeper has to control are mobility, strength and flexibility. Every day, alone, he works on these facets as part of his daily routine. He and the coaching staff also study such details as his positioning, and his stance when facing shots on goal. With all this individual development, he is convinced that he is now capable of making smarter decisions on the pitch than he did seven years ago, when he was just starting out in the professional game.
