És ben coneguda la importància del cervell i del sistema nerviós central íntegrament com a eix fonamental en el moviment humà, i per tant en el rendiment esportiu. Cada presa de decisió i cada execució en el camp tenen el seu origen en el sistema nerviós central, el qual està també relacionat amb qüestions emocionals i intel·lectuals. Com a professionals que interactuem amb esportistes, hem de ser capaços de comprendre el desenvolupament holístic dels atletes, inclosos els dominis biofísics i psicosocials, i aplicar aquest coneixement a la seva pràctica d’entrenament. L’educació física escolar i els sistemes d’entrenament no aconsegueixen satisfer la demanda de l’alfabetització motora. D’aquí sorgeix la necessitat d’estudiar el moviment humà amb relació al sistema nerviós i les seves diverses funcions, amb l’objectiu de desenvolupar esportistes amb major consciència motriu i millors capacitats de presa de decisió. Sens dubte, el desenvolupament estructurat d’aquesta temàtica constituirà una fita per avançar cap a un propòsit tan ambiciós.
